Serman Brands have released their version 1.0 of this bi-fold RFID blocking money clip wallet. It’s thicker than some other brands but looks very promising design wise.

How does the SERMAN BRANDS RFID Leather Money Clip 1.0 stack up?

Let’s talk about the design of this minimalist wallet. You’ll immediately notice a really handy quick access sleeve on the front of the wallet. If you’re like me, you use the same card for 70%+ of your transactions and this is a nice touch. Easy to remove and easy to put back in thanks to the rounded off hole that allows you to slide it in and out.

Opening it up, you’ll see two additional sleeves for cards on the left, a money clip and a clear ID area on the right. Nothing of too much note here although the money clip is removable and a nice, sturdy looking design. Although the ID card is easy to access, there may be a design issue with your currency obscuring the view. Once you’ve put notes in the clip, it’s a bit awkward to access the ID.

The flashiest part of this slim wallet however, is the red pull tab on the back. You can put 3 or 4 additional cards in a pocket that sits in between the back fold. Although it takes a bit of sorting to find the card you need, these would be your low access cards. It certainly saves time digging into a narrow area and keeps the thickness of the wallet down.

Serman Brands have a patent pending for this design and appear to really stand behind their product. I’ve noticed many of the issues people having with this wallet deftly handled and wallets replaced. They offer a 12 month warranty and seem to back it up with action. That begs the question though, what defects are people finding?

The answer is in the stitching and the awesome ribbon pull tab. The tab is not strong enough and the glue and stitching on some units is a bit faulty. The SERMAN BRANDS RFID Leather Money Clip 1.0 isn’t a cheap wallet (it’s also not made from cheap components) so keep that in mind. Some customers have had to return their wallet, usually within the first year for the reasons above.

Look and feel

Moving on from my last point above, the stitching and construction of the SERMAN BRANDS RFID Leather Money Clip 1.0 LOOKS great. Perhaps after heavy use, you might start to see some failure though. The leather is excellent, smells great and has that worn look. Please be aware when you buy a leather wallet, depending on how it’s treated, you will get marks and scratches. Some people like this look, others don’t. It’s definitely soem nice 100% leather though.

On top of relatively thick leather material (compared to nylon or similar) you also have RFID blocking material within. This means that, as with most bi-folds, the wallet will get quite thick once full. You have to understand that this is a sacrifice you make when buying RFID.

Also, people will comment that the RFID does not work.

Please read my article on RFID blocking to see why people complain. I see the same thing over and over: “It doesn’t block my ID card at work”. That’s a different frequency – this RFID blocking is for higher frequencies (the ones that hold sensitive information like passports and bank cards).

The packaging it comes with is excellent with a sexy looking box and carry bag. This makes it a nice choice for a men’s gift. There are also a myriad of colours to choose from which is always a plus.

Card Capacity

This is where this relatively slim wallet really shines. I love the easy access sleeve at the front and you can fit two cards in there with a bit of stretching. You can double up the inner, angled sleeve pockets and fit another 4 in the ribbon slot. This will really affect the thickness of the SERMAN BRANDS RFID Leather Money Clip 1.0 however and might be a bit of a stretch.

I would say the wallet comfortably fits 6 and at a stretch 8-10. The money clip with 6 cards or so will fit about 20 American bank notes. I say American because my bigger Australian notes are too big for this wallet! Buyer beware, this wallet is for smaller currencies only. I could complain about this but I’m guessing Serman Brands know their audience.

REVIEW – SERMAN BRANDS RFID Leather Money Clip 1.0
Apart from some glue and stitching issues, the Serman Brands RFID bifold money clip wallet is a nicely crafted and well thought out slim wallet. It's only the thicker side of some slim wallets but is incredibly easy to use and features some innovative design ideas. Great customer service and returns policy and well worth the money.
