Who is the Travel Wallet Expert?

travel wallet expertHi, my name is Ben and I love to travel. I’ve backpacked all over the world from the warm sunny beaches of Australia to the busy, hectic streets of South East Asia to the architecturally beautiful alley ways of Prague and I’m not even halfway done!

Every city has it’s own unique flavor and beauty and unfortunately, it’s own element of danger. After being pick-pocketed for the third time while in downtown Manila, I decided it was time to make a change. I started off with a classic money belt, much like this one.

The quest for the perfect travel wallet begins!

After plenty of use, the strap on my money belt broke and so begun my search for the ultimate travel wallet. Since then, I’ve been obsessed with all kinds of travel accessories, passport wallets, money belts, travel organizers and neck wallets. After writing copious notes about these travel accessories and reading hundreds of reviews, I decided to build this site. Now you don’t have to sift through thousands of reviews and sites to find the perfect travel companion.

Keeping up to date with modern thievery

It’s pretty obvious that as technology expands and grows, so do the efforts and capabilities of would-be thieves. RFID theft is an increasing concern and with most of the modern world now using this technology, thieves have found another avenue to exploit. Keeping up to date with the latest protection is super important to me and there are great products out there that are keeping these criminals constantly frustrated.

I’ll be writing about some of these topics in my blog, so stay tuned and keep up to date with the newest and best ways to protect your cash, passports and personal information. I’ll be touching on topics such as the “top 10 things to carry with you while travelling”, “RFID theft – how does it work?” and info on “the most dangerous cities for pick pockets” plus much more.

What’s my review process?

Every product on my site is scrutinized and researched to the utmost. Taking into account online reviews, specs from the official manufacturer and my own experience with travel wallets. I hope to give a neutral, expert and highly informative opinion on every travel wallet on my site. If I don’t trust it, it doesn’t make it onto my site. I’m a pretty tough reviewer and are there are a lot of low quality money belts, travel wallets and neck pouches on the market.

If you’ve used a travel wallet that you’ve loved in the past, I’d love to know about it!

Review Criteria

Below are the 5 main criteria I use for reviews:

Durability

Is the travel wallet made from high quality components that won’t wear over time? Will the zippers break? Will the fabric tear? Do the buckles hold up over heavy use? These are the questions I ask every time I review a wallet. After all, you might be carrying your entire life in your travel wallet. Durability is of utmost importance.

Style

Let’s face it, everyone has their own unique style so this is a tough one to judge. To me, a travel wallet should be sleek, fashionable and compliment your own look. Some wallets are undeniably great looking no matter what your preference while others tend towards the dorky tourist look. This is just my opinion so if something works for you – go for it!

Function

Are the pockets in the right place? Will the zipper close when the wallet is full? Is the design clunky or does it make sense? Are the features necessary or do they make the process of retrieving money or your passport more complicated? Is it comfortable to wear? Function incorporates the layout and all the features that a travel wallet possesses.

Security

Security is just as important if not more than all other criteria. After all, one of the main reasons you buy a travel wallet is to keep everything secure. Does the wallet offer RFID protection? If so, has it been tested and how effective is it? Does the design and construction of the travel wallet make it an easy target for thieves? How hard is it to snatch and grab from your person?

Value

This one is pretty self explanatory – sometimes high price does not equal high quality. I’ve looked at hundreds of travel wallets, money belts and neck wallets and I take into consideration all the above criteria when I determine value. Can I get a better wallet for cheaper? Am I paying too much for these features? Being a low budget traveler, I’m always on the lookout for the best quality at the lowest price.

Well that’s it from me! I genuinely wish you the safest of travels and hope that my site helps you find the perfect travel wallet. Happy traveling adventurers!
