REVIEW – Shacke Hidden Travel Pocket Vault Belt Wallet

A unique approach to protecting your gear – the Shacke Pocket Vault Belt wallet secures around your belt and lives inside your pants
How Does The Shacke Hidden Travel Pocket Vault Belt Wallet Stack Up?
This is the first wallet of its kind that I’ve reviewed. I tend to avoid using a travel wallet like this because I’m always worried about access. Shacke have come up with a relatively effective way to conquer these qualms with their Pocket Vault.
The wallet is designed with a loop at the top. You simply thread your belt through it when putting on your pants and tuck it over and in. It then sits between your pants and underwear safe and sound on your thigh. It can also sit outside your pants but that somewhat negates the security aspect of the wallet. The other thing is – you must always wear a belt! If you’re the kind of person who is always wearing a belt when travelling, this isn’t a problem.
The Shacke Hidden Travel Belt Wallet is RFID shielded and in terms of construction, looks pretty sturdy. The YKK zippers are indeed some of the smoothest zippers on the market. They can be a little bulky at times but it’s worth it for the quality.
Look and Feel
The Shacke Pocket Vault is a bit smaller than it looks in the photos. I found this a good thing as carrying something in between your clothes can be a bit uncomfortable. It’s actually a bit more flexible than it looks in the pictures and features a super soft backing.
In terms of walking around with it in your pants, there are going to be mixed reactions. It’s quite comfortable if
a) you’re of a medium – large frame
b) you don’t wear tight jeans or shorts
c) you don’t tuck in your shirt
If you don’t fit into the above categories, you might be better off with a different style of product. Shacke do offer a combination product that is a neck wallet that doubles as a belt wallet which is worth a look.
The compartments and design of the wallet work well. The top zip at the front fits currency of all sizes inside without needing to bend the notes. The lower zip is for your cards and is separated by a mesh partition. The cards can be a tight fit to slide in horizontally but either than that it works well. The side pocket fits up to 2 passports easily and also has a mesh separator.
In terms of security, the Shacke Travel Wallet Belt can’t really be beat. The combination of RFID protection and the strength of the loop that you fasten to your belt mean that a snatch and grab or close proximity to RFID thieves aren’t really a concern. Depending on the color of your belt, the wallet is virtually un-detectable besides the loop.
It’s really a toss up here and a question of what’s more important. The slight awkwardness of flipping your wallet out from under your shorts, untucking your shirt in the process or the added security of having your stash so close at all times.
